Skylos frowned a bit. As someone who was well-versed in many types of Power...well, none of this shocked him, to say the least; he had seen some pretty weird stuff over the years. He was also aware of Valdis' abilities. Of course he hadn't seen them be used on someone living before, so that was problematic. Can't say I know what was going on inside of his head, either.

Réon nodded to Blanchet. "How is this death different from say the death of any other from any other being of power," as he said this, Réon gestured at the group as he said this. "When any other powered being we've heard of has attacked and killed another human. The power is external, akin to a super powered bullet that likewise ends a life. Valdis' power is completely internal and was able to yank life away from the diseased with little effort on the part of the user. We've simply never seen a power such as this, and even with our current laws and codes around power we don't have a full understanding of how power works, let alone a new and potentially unique one such as this."
Réon nodded. "Thank you Doctor Blanchet." He headed back to his desk and nodded at Kavisto. "Your witness."

Kavisto stood and looked at the Doctor. "Doctor Blanchet. You said that you don't have a full understanding of how Power works. Why is it that you are standing here as a witness...?" Kavisto raised an eyebrow. He had expected that the State would have brought in someone who was actually an expert. This seemed incredibly shortsighted. Am I not seeing something?

"On the contrary, Mr. Pantech, no one in the government has a complete understanding of how power works. You know that."
"Dr. Blanchet," called the judge, "please only answer the questions asked to you and refrain from personal comments."
"Yes your honour. As I said, Kavisto, power in general is a little known phenomenon to all. Valdis' power in particular is a completely new form that has never been seen, before."

"I see." Kavisto noted calmly. "He does not deny the fact, so I see little reason why he can continue to stand in this court as a witness." Kavisto seemed bored now. It didn't matter if the Power was something new to them; it was all new to them. "I don't have any further questions for the witness."

"Redirect, honour?"
"Go ahead, monsieur." Réon stood and headed back to Blanchet. "Doctor, what is your conclusion on this new form of power."
Blanchet rubbed his glasses. "As with anything a form of power that is discovered should be studied and likewise it's user should control it. Similar to if a civilian were to purchase a firearm. Based on the event, Valdis has shown an inability to control his own powers and presents a clear and dangerous threat." Réon grabbed a paper and showed it to Blanchet. "Do you recognize this?" Blanchet nodded, "it is the results of the studies done by Kavisto on Valdis years ago not long after The Wither incident."
"What were the results?"
"Inconclusive."
"So if an expert on power such as Kavisto can find nothing on Valdis, then would it not be out of the realm of possibility to determine that Valdis presents a potential threat to society on a large scale?"
"It would be, and it would be likewise be my recommendation that Valdis be remanded and placed under further study."
In the stands, Valdis gripped his legs and stared down at the floor. Ponic put his hand on his shoulder to comfort him. "It's not over, yet," he whispered to Valdis. Réon nodded, "thank you, no more questions." Blanchet stepped down, keeping his constant air of professionalism. The judge then called out, "as per decided rules by both parties this trial will work with modified protocol. Kavisto you may call a witness."

Aqua was annoyed at the ability of the governments. They employ Kavisto, her boss, as head of power defense, yet no one knows anything? Listing it as a 'phenomenon'? It had been around before any of them had been born. But she was calm. This information wasn't new, as they knew Valdis could pull live essence out of people....? But Valdis' doesn't...pull power....right? The more she thought, the more confused she was getting.

Kavisto said nothing in regards to the tests he had run. Instead, he scanned the group that he had to ask to the stands. "The defense calls Ponic Shade." This was done with planning. Ponic was the head of the group, so it made sense to start with him.

Kavisto had warned Ponic he was going to be called but he was still a touch nervous with it. He felt like his stomach was in a knot. Demons and monsters, no problem. World ending events, sure. Crazed Ulters that nearly kill you, yup. Stand in a court room and give a testimony? Hell no. Ponic thought this to himself although he was certain Skylos probably picked up on his emotions. Neverthelss you'd never know by looking at Ponic, unless you knew him quite well, he held his head high and stepped forward sitting on the witness stand.

This was all so bizarre! Halo had always wondered what it would be like to be in a court trial. Sure, this wasn't exactly one, but it gave her a bit of an idea. It felt a little like she was in a movie!
For now, she stayed quiet and did not interrupt anything.

Kavisto spent time questioning Ponic but his RPer isn't here so screw that, bitches establishing some information on Valdis' power and his character. At this point Réon stood and directed his gaze at Halo. "I call Halo Raviolli to the stand." (yup still sounds weird hearing it, haha)

As Halo got to the stand and Ponic passed her going to sit down he whispered in her ear. "You'll be fine."
Réon walked to Halo and began. "Tell me, when did Valdis arrive at your cabin, and did you know anything about the boy?"

Rem watched as his wife took the stand, giving her a gentle touch on the shoulder before she left. He figured she must of been called as a character witness.
Aqua watched on, wondering if they all would be called at this rate. Unless she was unaware, she never really felt she saw Halo and Valids interact much.

Markov leaned over to Aqua. "See through, totally see through. Call one of the few people in our gang that barely knows him and use her uncertainty to paint Valdis as some crazy nuclear bomb."
Réon continued. "Let's me be more blunt. What was your reaction when you learned that his power involved the ability to drain life from anything he touches at his will?"

Halo frowned a bit. "Okay, well what would anyone's reaction be? It's something we've never seen before, so it was a bit freaky, that's for sure! What mattered more is when we got to know him and that he's not violent!"

Réon was about to say something else when an officer burst into the court room. The judge stood, "what is the meaning of this? You better have a good excuse for interrupting the proceedings." The officer whispered something into the judge's ear. Whatever it was it made the judge look up and he appeared quite put off. "We are dismissed until further notice." As everyone moved to stand he gestured to the group, "remain a moment."
After everyone left, Markov was the first to break the silence. "Is this a bloody joke? You can't just grab Valdis and lock him up somewhere!"

Yisha and Halo both stood up when the officer burst in. Yisha had been about to make a move, but stopped herself and breathed. "Goddamn... This is just unreal..."
Halo blinked. "Uhh... Am I done then?" She really wanted to return to her seat next to Yisha and Rem.

Aqua folded her arms, looking rather annoyed. "I don't like how this is going."
"Why do we need to stay here, just us? Why do people like to keep us in the dark so much when we do all the heavy work around here?" Rem said.
"I'd like to think it's just to make it easier to get us for a reconvene, but then why wouldn't we just be allowed to wait in the lobby? Thats what im worried about. Somethings wrong." Aqua continued.

The judge took off his glasses and sighed to the group. "Yes, Halo, you are done. To the rest of you I must be honest with you. I am not a fan of Valdis' power. It seems even you have little understanding of them and what has occurred speaks for itself."

Aqua had quite enough of this painting Valdis as a weapon already. Had she gotten to speak earlier she would of spoken this clearly. "Your honor, with all due respect what occurred was of no fault of Valdis himself. I was at the scene, and an outside attacker was very clearly controlling what was happening. Did none of you read the reports? I filed my own myself as well. In fact, Valdis was fighting back this discharge of his own power. Ultimately because law enforcement, after being ordered to stand down no less, shot at a child, which caused this discharge of his power." Aqua paused for a second. "Let me phrase it in a way a 'powerless human' would understand if I wasn't clear enough. Picture yourself being forced to hold someone at gunpoint against your will, but then say this person stabs you and you pull the trigger killing the unrelated party. Would you still say that you killed this person of your own will? Or say if you were not attacked you simply wouldn't of pulled the trigger at all? And the thing about powers is that some have the power to control overs, which further puts him away from this. Valdis may not be an expert in his own power, but before today, this had never happened before out of the years we've known him, to no fault to him. You waste your time trying to push the blame on a victim, while you allow the one who set this up to continue to walk unapposed, while you tie us up here with pointless proceedings preventing us from doing our job of preventing this from happening again. Your Honor." Aqua finished, this second your honor having more annoyance then before.

The judge fixed Aqua with a piercing glare. "Your comparison does not hold up, that is why we are here. The gun does not posses the ability to shoot by itself and it does not change the fact that Valdis DID lose control of his power and and DID kill another human. What if he were my son is irrelevant, Ms. Yisha, what if he killed another's son should he lose control again? Like it or not the scope of his abilities is dangerous."
Markov found himself thinking, technically he's lost control once before even if it was in a fake dream world
Ponic knew Aqua well enough to tell when she was agitated and gave her a gentle tap on the arm. Careful, he sent to her telepathically, it won't do us much good if you wind in contempt of court for mouthing off at the judge. The judge sighed agian and rubbed his forehead. "It doesn't matter much at the moment, anyways. For now you can consider the matter on hold as there is a more pressing concern. Evidently there is a shadow attack in the north." Now it was Ponic's turn to pipe up. "That is impossible, not every Shadow Wielder has the ability to jump between realms, and my people have no interest in attacking."
"You are not the only race in the Shadow Realm, correct? This one appears to be infected individuals through their shadows. Possessing them, almost like an infection." Ponic blinked, "irate..." he whispered, "no infections that harm a Shadow Wielder would have no effect on a human, much the same way human disease does not affect us."
"Well, apparently that is no longer the case," said the judge.

While Aqua kept a calm composure on the outside, inside she was furious. What human gets to decide how powers function? They don't just go crazy and act of their own accord, much like her comparison to a gun or other weapon. Powers are used like a weapon, and can be used on another person to force them to act outside of their will, which is what happened. Aqua remembered the look in the attackers eyes. She knew this person forced Valdis to do what he did, despite Valdis' resistance. Valdis lost control because someone was forcing their power on his, and being shot at caused him to lose the control he had. Aqua knew this. There was no question in her mind that it wasn't Valdis' fault, his power doing the killing or not. She may not of been close to him, but she'd defend him to the end. The only dangerous thing here is your ignorance you old fool. A simple review of the facts and a 'actual' understanding of power would of thrown this out the moment it hit the docket. The powerless shouldn't judge what they do not understand....But that's how these 'humans' are. No matter how much time passes, they remain stupid fools who let fear guide their actions... Aqua thought to herself, though depending on when Ponic was paying attention he may have caught it. Then directed at Ponic My tone may have shifted near the end, but the logic is sound. It's what happened. I was there, I saw it with my own eyes. His eyes...This judge should know it too, unless all evidence for this was ignored for a bias. Or fear, the human crutch.
Rem put one of his hands on his hip and looked dead on at the judge. "Then are you done? It's sounds like we have grateful and ungrateful people to protect. If you have no intention on continuing this trial at this time then." Rem hid his disgust for the judge, but left the ungrateful part in for him to assume it was about him.
Aqua wanted to storm right out, she had government clearance, and it was her legal job to look into this, but she remained for now. But then Kavisto was still here, so if told she'd take off in a moments notice. Anything to get away from the now in her eyes biased judge, and focus on the real task at hand. This could be a connected attack and they were wasting time.

Rem's tone was not lost on the judge at all but he decided to say nothing and instead just fixed him with a standard 'judge look'. He then gestured to some papers on his desk. "Regardless, yes you can consider this matter closed at least for the foreseeable future. As it stands current evidence leads me to side with the defendant, I don't yet feel the prosecution has proven their case. Still, we will be watching this, very closely." Evidently the judge took his appointed powers quite seriously, perhaps more so than was realistic. "Go, they are in the north of the country-"
"I am sensitive to shadow power, I'll be able to find them," said Ponic heading out with the others. Once they had cleared the building Ponic looked at the others, he appeared visibly agitated. "This is not possible. Shadow infections, including Irate, should not be compatible with a human system. I haven't a clue how anyone would have been able to cross species in such a way."

Rem looked concerned. "Well it could be a misunderstanding. Humans misidentify stuff all the time, what if it's just something that appears that way. If anything, it's probably a trap to get our attention because you would pick up on it."
"If all number of possible human made mutations I've seen that group that works for Kraven do, it's possible they might not be natural shadow beings either." Aqua said, referring to something she didn't notice the others probably wouldn't know about since she encountered this on her team missions. She then touched one of the sage stones she kept around for long range communication to contact Raylu. "Raylu, it's Aqua. We might need you to meet us at a possible mission site. There's a large outbreak of some shadow like...something up far north of-"
"I think I've found them Lady Aqua, I'm getting some strange aura readings of a shadow like nature. I can't tell what they are from here. I will meet you all there and stand by to see what I can find." Raylu relayed to Aqua. Anyone listening would of heard this, as it was not telepathic commutation.
"Thank you Raylu, we'll be along shortly once were sorted." She replied before pocketing the stone again.
---------
A few months back, Kavisto's group had gotten a report of a small group dark creatures seen in the more rundown outskirts of the city, matching the description of Darkens. They had been sent out to investigate the claim, the four of them. Outside a larger, possibly abandoned building, a few Darkens seemed to be outside of it, heading inside. From the cover of other buildings were the others. "Guys I've sighted them. They're by that tall empty looking building." Aqua commented.

Trevor's eye was already to where Aqua pointed out. "Yup. I see them, too." He narrowed his eyes. "Wonder what's in the building since they seem to wanna be in it." He tried to feel through the earth to find out where in the building they were going. Were they scattered throughout it? All congregating in one room? How many were in there? He could probably get a general sense to the answers of these questions momentarily...

"It seems strange for them to be so out in the open like that..." Aqua pondered. As Trevor felt the earth for movement, he'd find they seemed to be heading for the buildings basement. A few other people could be detected down there as well, but no real power other then from the darkens. Then suddenly the ones outside started going inside with the others. "I wonder if this is some kind of recon mission Zalendor's pulling. Maybe that's why they set up out on the edge of town."
