Akio stood in front of the mirror in his bedroom and fixed up his coat and tie. He was indeed a tad jittery and his hands could hardly stay still. That’s what anxiousness will do to you right before something like this. He fingered the small velvet box in his pocket and smiled to himself, his eyes closed. They opened as he felt a hand on his shoulder.
“Don’t worry, Akio. I’m sure it’ll go great.” He found his twin brother standing next to him now.
“Oh, Miso, how can you be so sure? It’s only been… well… five years.”
Miso laughed.
“And last I checked, any sane guy would have proposed four years ago. Now go out there and snatch her before anyone else does. And remember. I got dibs on Best Man.” He winked at Akio through the mirror. “And besides. You look great. How could any woman turn you down? You’re quite a looker!”
Akio laughed now.
“You’re only saying that because you look almost exactly the same!” He nudged his twin and then gave him a brotherly hug and breathed in, then out. “Okay. I’m off. How do I look?” He ran a hand across his hair.
Miso rolled his eyes, grinned, and then shoved Akio along and out the door.
“Go. It’ll be perfect.” He gave Akio another hopeful smile and watched as he walked down the street, and ‘round the corner, out of sight.
“Akio, this spot is just beautiful! I just love picnics. And I love to watch sunsets even more. This was the perfect date.”
“Oh, I know. Exactly why I picked this spot.” Akio smiled at Amber and she rested her head on his chest, sitting close to him, and watched the sunset sky. Akio was silently fingering the small velvet box once more. Okay, Akio. Now is the perfect time. Do it now. He took a deep breath, then got onto his knees and got ready to take the traditional proposal stance. “Amber, I-“
A strong and sudden clap of thunder suddenly rang through the small out-skirt area as a man with four large, gray wings and black curled horns appeared behind them out of a sudden burst of gray cloud that dissipated quickly. He grinned sadistically, showing off his set of sharp fangs and he cracked his clawed fingers. It was a Storm Demon. But what could he possibly want!? Akio, taken aback greatly by this man’s sudden appearance, stood up quickly, as Amber, scared out of her wit, could hardly manage to move anywhere.
“Ak-Akio… Wh-What is that thing!?” Akio looked down at Amber, but didn’t have time to answer her as a sudden bolt of lightning came down upon him.
“Gah!” He fell to his knees, recovering quickly back to his feet. “What do you want from us!? Why don’t you leave us alone, we didn’t do anything to you!” Akio knew he wasn’t quite strong enough to face this guy yet. What could he do? He stood in front of the trembling Amber.
“Oh, it’s not about what I want. It’s about what my master wants. But I need you out of the way, first.” He sent another bolt of lightning down on Akio.
“No! Stop!” Akio jumped out of the way, then clambered back in front of Amber. “Please! If it’s me you want to get rid of, then take me, but please don’t hurt Amber!” he said this in a desperate tone, still hardly aware of what was going on and why this was happening on his perfect day. Amber was crouching behind Akio, utterly speechless as she blinked and looked at the mysterious Storm Demon.
“No, I’m afraid I can’t do that. Those weren’t my orders.” He suddenly went to give Akio another shock of lightning, this time hitting him, and Akio fell, limp into the grass, unconscious. Amber gasped.
“Akio!?” She looked up as the Storm Demon was now in front of her. She screamed and moved backward on her hands and feet. But there was no way she could get away from a Storm Demon so easily.
“Come ‘ere, my pretty.” He sent a large amount of lightning down on Amber, electrocuting her and she, too fell onto her back, no motion left.
Akio then woke up, groggy. He saw the Storm Demon bend over Amber and start to do something to her, but he couldn’t see what, for his vision was still blurry from the hit. He tried to stand up, but fell back down again.
“Am-ber… Stop…”
The Storm Demon then stood back up, and grinned down at Akio malevolently.
“So long, kid I have what I need now.” He disappeared again, the same way he’d come, and the cloud dissipated, revealing the empty space where he had just been.
“No!” He stood up and woozily ran over to Amber’s body. Without thinking, he transformed into his Love Demon form, picked up Amber, spread his two angelic wings, and soared off as quickly as he could.
“Mr. Filos…”
Akio stood up quickly from the waiting room chair, again in human form, and stared at the doctor in front of him. Miso stood up as well, having just arrived ten minutes earlier after Akio had a message sent to him about what had happened.
“Doctor?”
The doctor sighed and removed his glasses.
“Mr. Filos, I am afraid to inform you that your fiancée did not make it.”
“Wh-what? No. No, she can’t be…”
“We tried everything we could to jumpstart her heart back into beat. But she was already dead when you brought her in. I’m sorry. I shall leave you alone for now, and you can deal with the specifics later.” The doctor walked away, shaking his head softly. Akio stood, staring blankly after him.
Miso came over and put a hand on his brother’s shoulder.
“Akio… I’m so sorry…”
“I’m going to get him, Miso…”
“Who?”
“That damned Storm Demon. I’m going to find him, and I’m going to kill him… I swear it…”
“Don’t worry, Akio. I’m sure it’ll go great.” He found his twin brother standing next to him now.
