Maura felt sick. "So.. you do still have memories of growing up with all of them at the cabin, fighting by their sides, being best friends, marrying Halo..? You still feel all those attachments, like as if you had lived that life?"
She couldn't imagine how she would possibly cope with that if she were in his shoes, if Trevor and everyone else she knew "suddenly" didn't recognize her and she had to watch someone else take her place, basically take her life, and realize that her entire life was a lie and she didn't actually have any friends or family.. She shuddered. And Remone remembers being married to someone! Is he still in love with Halo? This situation seemed more horrific than she'd previously realized.

Remone started to nervously laugh, but due to his psychic powers he was actually picking up on Maura's emotions in a way. He wasn't trying to, it was just something he did subconsciously. "No no, not quite like that. The memories were made to be as distant from Rem's as possible. I never had any memories of being personally connected to Halo. Honestly, I don't remember her being married at all, so being told I was hiding her husband was shocking at first." He paused for a second on how to explain it better. "My memories...while I had connections to everyone in them, they were not the same connections Rem had, if that makes sense. They needed to make sure that if my mind was read, that they couldn't trace them back to Rem's. So my history is different, but based on the events Rem experienced. Honestly they should of had Rem in my memories as well, as it sounds like a design flaw, but I don't pretend to know how it works fully. Maybe they couldn't or the illusion would crumble." Remone seemed fine when talking, but maybe that was because it distracted him from his thoughts.
Aqua didn't know what to say right away, she was feeling sick about this like Maura was.

Maura did let out a relieved breath when Remone informed her he was never "married" to Halo, "Oh thank God! ..I mean, I'm sorry, it's still an awful situation. I just meant.. at least you don't have memories of being married to anyone and having that taken away.." She hoped she wasn't putting her foot in her mouth too badly..
She stopped for a second then. "Wait. In your memories, did you always have Rem's body, too?"

Weirdly enough, Remone was actually...laughing a little bit? "I understand what you mean, its not like something like this happens often." He paused for a second. "In my memories, the person Rem never existed at all. Any events he was heavily tied to simply never happened in my mind, or were reworked by having someone else take his place, not always myself. I only confirmed this all when I had the Eye back and cross-referenced our memories, then compared them to the memories of the World Savers." He closed his eyes and sighed. "I didn't feel comfortable looking into their minds, but after I saw Rem's memories, I..I just had to know. I had been festering doubts since that mission began because everyone suddenly started treating me differently."
"Maybe...we should have done a better job of pretending. We just didn't know how to handle it." Aqua said.
Remone shook his head. "No no, don't think like that. If anything that might have been worse. Sure it was already bad, but when you all came to get me after I fled, I was prepared to fight for my life...if I had more reason to resent you, I could of killed someone...or I might not be here. Weather or not that is actually for the better, who can say now."

Maura was trying to process it all, it was definitely a bizarre situation. What was Remone supposed to do now? Where would he go?
By now, they'd have gotten back to the Portal leading back to the base.
"Is there anything you miss, from your old memories, that doesn't exist anymore? Or rather, that never existed at all?" She was imagining that he must have memories of having his own room at the cabin, his own clothes, weapons, personal items. Souvenirs from trips and events that had never really happened. She imagined that he must feel terribly homesick for a place that never truly existed..

Remone had followed them back through the portal, as he considered Maura's question. "If I am to be honest...any kind of attachment to objects like that are eclipsed by the weight of everything. I haven't had time to think about that type of thing...Honestly the only belongings I have are these clothes and The Eye if you'd count that. Honestly its more like another living being than an object...well maybe not living, but a personality."

Maura paused to consider the Eye. She hadn't considered the implication before, but..
"So.. like.. having the Eye, it's like having another personality inside your mind..?" God, no wonder Remone had been out in the desert trying to bake himself to death, this was so overwhelming.
Maura led them down a corridor towards the residential section of the base. They might even pass her own bedroom along the way.

Remone nodded as they walked. "The Eye, Wu Gong as he goes by, is a full personality, but only when he's active. He can keep up to whats going on around us, but he's not like always active or anything. We don't share thoughts or memories or anything unless we are trying to communicate directly." He paused for a second. "He's spoken to me about teaching me about greater psychic powers or his own experiences, but...my mind hasn't really been the state to socialize with a personality in my head." He laughed nervously. Being a psychic he was aware of his mental state, but not really how to treat it. The prism colored stone in his forehead glowed briefly before going out. "Ah, that was him now, actually. He didn't want to interrupt, but he offers his greetings."
Aqua was listening to him speak, and honestly it broke her heart. She felt guilty for not trying to be closer to him until now.

Maura felt more... mildly disturbed by the Eye. She definitely would not like having something with its own personality just in her mind 24/7, never able to be alone.
"You don't mind it?" She asked. "Actually, in your memories, was the Eye always there? In your head?" I guess if he feels like this is always how his life has been, for as long as he can remember, maybe it's not that weird for him..
She didn't really know how to respond to the Eye.. "greeting" her..
"Uh, tell it hi back, I guess."

Remone actually let out a genuine laugh at Maura's reaction, which might have been the most light-hearted he'd felt since everything. "No, he hasn't always been there, memories or otherwise. But it is weird, for sure. He's not...bothersome or anything. He tends to respect the fact that I wish to be alone, but it doesn't stop him from getting in the way of self destructive activities." He laughed it off like it was no big deal, but it was. "Like, I'm adapting to him, I kinda need to since he functions as my core now. I think that's why he tries to keep interactions to a minimum. He seems to want me to function on my own, even if I'm not sure how to currently."
"That sounds like a lot to get used too, honestly." Aqua commented.
"It is...but maybe because he's my core is why I've adapted to his presence so quickly." Remone commented.

Maura didn't know how to take that "self destructive activities" remark, considering he has clearly been attempting some self destruction when they'd found him, but she also didn't really know what she'd say about it. She off-handedly wondered how far "preventing self destructive activities" went. Did drinking alcohol count?
At that moment, they reached the correct door. Maura took out the key and unlocked it for them, stepping inside.
It was a basic bedroom, almost like a bare dorm room. Simple bed, an empty wooden dresser, a small closet, a simple desk and chair, and 2 mounted shelves on the wall. Maura felt a little sad looking at it. It seemed so.. depersonalizing.
"Maybe.. If you tell us about what kinds of things you had in your old room in your memories, we could help you make it seem a little more cozy..?" She offered.
"Do you think Kavisto would let us repaint in here?" She asked Aqua. She didn't actually know how long Remone might stay here, however.

Aqua glanced over to Maura. "Maybe? I mostly stay in my cabin room, so I never asked before. Maybe Jake would know, he's been here the longest."
Remone looked around the room, taking it in. If it was being offered to him, it might have been the first thing that was actually his. "I've...never really thought about it, if I'm honest with you. Ever since everything happened, it's been the furthest thing from my mind. I'd sooner find something new rather then rebuild something from a false past."

[Kavisto's debriefing room] Maura quirked her eyebrow at the entrance of Agent Gaia. Ugh, look at that gorgeous red hair.. "Gaia? As in, Mother Earth?" Maura mused. Then she asked, "Did he reveal anymore information? We did learn one other thing about Magmore - he's just a pawn. Ralph and Electrode and the Darkens had no problem just leaving Magmore behind, meaning he's disposable to whoever's actually in charge." Trevor couldn't help but feel very slightly insulted by what Gaia said at the end there. Almost as if he had had to do the job that Trevor was supposed to get done, but failed to do. He didn't say anything at this point. What was there to really say? Jake kind of...looked really unimpressed suddenly. He was actually giving Kavisto a run for his money on having the blankest face. Agent Gaia looked at Maura. "I'm not in charge of carrying out whatever means of interrogation Kavisto wants to do, so no, I do not have any further information on him." Gaia sort of bobbed his head at what Maura stated. "Oh. I'm sure. If they were really worth something, they wouldn't have been doing the field testing themselves. I'm sure that whoever is behind everything is sitting comfortably in a large skyscraper somewhere, laughing at us floundering around with their test subjects. Granted, I didn't really have any trouble whatsoever with him, but anyway..." "Seriously? Why is he here? Why him?" Jake muttered to himself, not really paying much attention. At least his facial features had returned to normal. Kavisto cleared his throat with a slight raised volume, then spoke. "Magmore will shortly be undergoing interrogation. Whatever we glean from him will help in some way." He looked away from Gaia and back at the other three. "Now. I want you all to take something away from this mission. Things worked out this time. Remember that your have allies all around you. When you do not, trust that your team will take care of things." Jake nodded his head slightly. It had been awhile since he was given a speech by Kavisto. Usually they were very long and drawn out. It didn't seem like Kavisto was going to wear them out today, though.

[Kavisto's debriefing room - 2018]
Maura noted the two boys' immediate dislike of Gaia, and couldn't help but feel just a tiny bit amused. Sure, he might have been a little cocky, but for some reason that didn't bother her too much right now... I mean, with that hair, she could forgive a lot. Her eyes lingered on him a second longer before she turned back to Kavisto, nodding at what he'd just said. She was glad he seemed to be giving them leniency, she'd half expected extra paperwork or something, and looked forward to just getting some rest. She was drained.
Once everyone started to leave, however, Maura hung back a bit and let the boys leave first. She wanted to say something to Kavisto alone.
---
Once Trevor and Jake had said whatever they needed to and left, Maura turned to Kavisto. The nervousness and anxiety she'd felt earlier settled back on her chest, and she took a breath to steel her nerves. She began nervously fidgeting with her fingers.
"Sir," she started, "it wasn't Jake's fault. It was Trevor's because he should have sensed Magmore underground It was mine. I- I remembered Magmore, for a second, before we left." She wasn't looking at Kavisto, and felt just a tiny bit nauseous. "I could have stopped them from going to Aqua first, I should have said something, or just gone back to look for him myself, but I, I didn't, I just.." her eyes flicked up to Kavisto's face and quickly back down again, "..they just, immediately thought of Aqua. Their first instinct was to help her, and mine..." wasn't. Her voice trailed off for a second and she did really look up at him this time, her gaze full of apprehension. In a small voice, she continued. "When the building finally collapsed, and I saw them just take off after her without hesitation.. I felt.. ashamed that I didn't think of her first, too. And I didn't want to lose them, or hold them back from helping her, so I just... followed them. Jake's intentions were pure, he's not the only one who was responsible for it - I could have.. should have.. said something. So, don't be disappointed with Jake."
She stopped talking then, and waited with baited breath. It seemed like her whole speech spilled out in one moment of steely courage, and once that had deserted her, so had the words. What did I just do..
[Remone's room - 2016]
At that, Maura didn't know what to say. She reached out and squeezed his arm, and suddenly remembered an old Hopi saying she'd heard her grandmother say before. She spoke the phrase in the original Hopi, then translated: "'Take a breath of the new dawn and make it a part of you. It will give you strength.' My So'oh would say that sometimes. Maybe a fresh start is what you need." She gave him a half smile and turned to leave.
"Oh," she faced him again, "Once you get settled in, you might want to stop by the medical wing and get checked out -- just in case. The healers over there are way better than me." Then with that, she turned towards the door again.

Remone looked into Maura's eyes while she spoke to him. To him this might have been the first real connection he had with someone that wasn't a fabrication or a connection only he felt. If he wasn't so drained, he might of cried a bit. When she turned to leave, he put his fingers to his eyes, like he was checking for tears, but quickly tried to act like he wasn't when she turned back around. "Ah, yes. I...think I'll do that. It's been a couple days..." He trailed off. His voice sounded like it was cracking a bit. He cleared his throat, then continued. "I...think I will rest first, but while I do, The Eye wished to speak with you briefly, if you two didn't mind."
Aqua had been watching, since she didn't want to ruin the moment Maura and Remone were having or anything. But when he spoke to them both again, she looked a little surprised. "Oh, uhh well I mean I don't mind I guess, as long as you don't."

The gemstone on Remone's forehead glowed, as Remone's physical appearance changed to that of how it looked before Skylos repaired him. For some reason, this form was the form taken by Remone when the eye was in control. The voice of a different person could be heard from Remone's body, one sounding much older, but with a gentle kindness coming from it. "Greetings, I'm The Eye, but you may call me Wu Gong if you like." He paused for a moment. "I will not take up much of your time, I understand you are all busy people, and Remone better rests when I am not in control like this. I just wanted to thank you for coming for him today. You may have had your reasons, but being alone was not helpful for him, and I have not seen him this healthy since we fused together. I simply wanted to extend my gratitude to you both."

Maura was completely shocked at his awful physical transformation, involuntarily taking a half step back and sucking in her breath. She was also caught off guard being thanked by this... person.
"Oh," she said, "It was nothing..." She collected herself from her shock now. "I'm afraid the hardest part is yet to come for him, though. Figuring out how to live this new life." She paused. "If.. the old, false memories he still has are causing him too much pain.. can they be erased? They were never real, they're just phantoms remnants of a life that never existed, and that he can never get back to.."

"If that is something that he wills, I should be able to purge the false memories that make up his past. Though I fear that removing to much could remove who he is as well, as we are formed by our experiences. He has been unwilling to speak much on these matters, possibly due to his mental state. Maybe it's also due to him wanting to hold onto them, even though they cause him pain, that he won't consider the issue. He may be afraid of losing what little he has left of himself, and would rather die as himself then live as nothing." The Eye explained. "I can only make assumptions, as I have respected his privacy on these matters." He sounded deeply pained as he spoke.
Aqua seemed to understand what he was saying. "I've always thought about removing memories to take pain away, but then sometimes overcoming pain is better then just cutting it out. But this...this is a lot different."

Maura nodded at Aqua's input. "If they were real memories that were causing pain, I would never suggest it.. but since they aren't true memories... Then again, I guess they're as real as Remone is.. Without memories, or a past, or even really any genetically inherited personality traits... he would just be a blank slate I guess.." She looked away sadly. This whole situation seemed awful.. Were there therapists for Powered people? There had to be, right?

The Eye nodded, mostly to show the girls physically his thoughts rather then need to do it for himself. "It is a problem, to be sure. While I could work with him on this, and could possibly function a fix for him, he'd need to be able to go along with it. As of right now he just has little care for anything." He paused. " Though if I my be honest, today was the happiest I've seen him. He may not have seemed like it, but he greatly appreciated you two being there for him."
"We didn't mean for him to be alone at all. Normally there is a lot of chaos when a crisis ends and begins to calm down, and a lot of the group didn't know what to do. But we wouldn't have shown up if we didn't care." Aqua explained.
"And I believe he knows this. The memories may be false, but he knows your character and hearts though Rem." The Eye added.

Angie shook her head. "Actually, no... I've been stuck working and as soon as I could I rushed over here. I haven't gotten to even see Trev yet. This must've happened on your most recent mission, I'm guessing?" She asked Maura.
-----
Trevor was definitely noticing Jake's not-so-silent reaction to Gaia. He knew why he himself felt offput my Gaia at the moment (his sexy hair doing absolutely nothing to dissuade the feeling), but he actually wasn't quite sure why Jake would be. Hopefully he'd get a chance to ask him later.
Then, they were finally leaving the 'meeting' and Trevor was the first one out the door, followed by Jake. He noted that Maura was staying behind, unsure why, but he was a little more interested in Jake at the moment. Once they were down the hall a little ways, he looked at Jake and raised an eyebrow. "So you seemed pretty annoyed about Gaia..." So was I, but why were you?

Kavisto looked disinterested as Maura began to pour out her heart and soul to him. Giving a light sigh, but not quite an annoyed one, he spoke. "Jake is your unit commander. More is expected of him, regardless of feelings. So you thought to check first?" Kavisto's expression couldn't really sour much more, but it did seem to change slightly. "But you did not. And you were not expected to in your position. You were following your unit commander's instructions. You certainly could have elected to, and you probably should have... " His eyes narrowed ever so slightly. "Staying even a few seconds more, you would have run into Agent Gaia and you could have briefed him of the situation and he would have told you to follow your unit commander..." Kavisto could sense her emotions in flux. "The bonds you make with people are two-edged swords, Maura. I am not going to lecture you on how you process emotions. Your ability to make rational decisions, however, is of great importance. Your sense of justice is far more important; do not second guess yourself, or you will lead yourself into trouble."
Jake noted that Maura had stayed behind. He figured that she had some things she needed to get off of her chest. Hopefully she wasn't going to say anything embarrassing about him! "Huh?" His thoughts were interrupted by Trevor. "Oh! Um. Well I told you before I look up to him, but did he really need to ham it up like that? He's not really an Earth Human, you know. Ugh. Sometimes he's just infuriating. I don't even know why he came to help us. Half the time he's not even on this planet." Jake realized he was babbling a bit. "Uhh. Not that I care!" His face turned a little red. "Look. Mythos is kinda cool, but he's also a butthead. There's no reason for him to be all aloof and use dumb codenames for each Power he has." He then added. "Not that I care." Yeeeeeah.

As the night advanced, and everyone was recovering from the day they had, things were happening elsewhere. Ralph and the rest of his squad were arriving at a hidden base. It was lucky they left when they had, otherwise they could have been caught up in things with Magmore. Exiting the van in a hanger like area, Ralph and Electrode were going off alone, while the rest of the troops were being taken to the medical bay. Ralph and Electrode met Crix waiting for them. "We're all needed in the meeting room. Come with me." Crix said to them, as he escorted them all though the base to said meeting room. Inside was someone no one had seen in a while. "I've brought them, sir."
Ralph's eyes widened, as he put his arm across his chest as a salute. "Sir Kraven, it is you!" He said, sounding excited. Electrode had not met Kraven, but he followed Ralph's lead with a salute.
Kraven was sitting at a desk. He looked a bit older from the last time he had been seen, where he was presumed dead in a powerful robot explosion. "Pleased to see you alive and well. It's been some time since I've been back in the field."
"If you don't mind me asking, what happened sir?" Ralph asked.
Kraven closed his eyes, as he crossed his arms. "In all fairness, I shouldn't have lived the explosion. Sheer luck was a large factor. Had that bounty hunter that came for The Eye and The Absorber had not arrived when they did, I wouldn't have been able to escape. Crix was on the scene still, and helped me escape. Both of us didn't know if I'd survive with the ammount of blood I'd lost, along with my other wounds..." Kraven looked at his right hand, which used to be covered in burns from Rem and Skylos's eternal burning flame attack, but now looked clean. He clinched his fist, as he looked serious. "But if there's one thing I have, it's the will to live, and see this mission through." He looked back to Ralph. "I've been in serious recovery since, and have been working on more advanced healing and powered defenses."
Crix looked at Ralph and Electrode at this point. "The big boss himself didn't know if Kraven would survive, so he aranged for the professor to take over until we would know. Everything was to be kept under wraps until we knew."
Kraven looked annoyed at this point. "Speaking of the professor, he never arrived at Gamma base as instructed. It is best we assume that he has been captured by Kavisto's dogs."
Ralph looked worried. "What's the plan then? Do you think he'll spill?"
Kraven shook his head. "He knows he wont be able to. His nanobots won't allow it."
Ralph looked confused. "Nanobots?"
"We've been working on more means to combat the powered threat, and nanobots have been proving helpful." Kraven said. "For now, he can rot in a cell for his insubordination as punishment until we can form a plan. We can't blow our cover in Kavisto's just for his sake. We've already sent his notes to our inside man in Harkum Inc to continue work on the Meta Human project, as well as our new data from Magmore's reckless field test." He then looked to The Electrode. "By the way, we have not met properly. I'm Kraven, the acting leader of our operations here. You are Mr. Norman, correct? Project Electrode?"
Norman quickly nodded, feeling nervous. "Yes sir! A please to meet you sir, and my greatest apologies for my failure today!"
Kraven shook his head. "That isn't needed. You were not ready for such a full scale test, and that falls to your previous acting commander. You will be ready the next time you are needed. Aside from that, I was greatly impressed with your combat skills today." He then paused for a moment. "We have alot to catch up on. Magmore's mistake has set us back, but the Meta Human project will continue. And if we play our cards right, we may be able to use the Kavisto group our advantage...They have two of our Meta Humans, as well as the holder of The Eye of Wu Gong. We may need to keep a low profile for a while, thanks to Magmore, but we will make this work." He ended, then looked at both of them. "That's all I needed you both for, go get your wounded tended to, and Mr. Norman make sure you get blood work and the other tests done. We need to figure out what happened with your powers. You may both leave."
Both Ralph and Norman saluted with their arms across their chests again, then took their leave. Crix looked to Kaven. "Are you sure you are fit to be back on the field, sir?"
Kraven looked back to his hand again, looking lost in thought. "Fathers plans dont stop for me, you know this Crix. We've already had a long enough break, and with nothing but a rogue professor to show for it. We have catching up to do, and Magmore has proved we can't leave this in the hands of others for me to rest. We'll come back from this setback, stronger then before."

After a short pause, Trevor gave a sort of half-scowl. "Well, yeah, I think I see what you're getting at... The name thing- weird, but well, whatever. Sometimes I wonder if he has some form of DID [Dissociative Identity Disorder]." He said the last sentence a bit more under his breath. "But anyway, the arrogance is what got to me, plus making it kind of sound like he was forced to do my job for me or something because I left the scene... I dunno, maybe that's silly..." Trevor's cheeks reddened now a bit, though out of embarrassment at his own emotions. "Your feelings are valid, though, obviously. And mixed feelings about people or things is probably more the norm than anything else." Now he felt like he was rambling so he stopped.

"Exactly!" Jake then said in agreement, vindication now mixed with his still red face. "I'm sure you could have put Magmore to bed on your own, anyway. It's not our fault he decided to bring a building down on top of us before we could finish him off..." At this point, Jake trailed off as he realized that he was kinda out in the open at work in the middle of a hallway. It could lead to something really embarrassing if other people saw them venting about Mythos. "...Why don't we continue this somewhere else... ahahahah..."

Trevor's mouth curled up into a smirk. Jake seemed to like his place more for some reason, and Trevor never minded, because really he did feel as most ease in his own personal space. He was, though, feeling more and more comfortable in Jake's place as time went on, though.
Once they got there, Trevor closed the door behind them. Suddenly, he was also became aware that he was feeling a little 'in the mood' so to speak, but they hadn't ventured there many times yet and he was still kind of knew to the 'game' so he still never felt quite confident enough to initiate anything. Instead, he took off his jacket he'd been wearing and hung it on the back of the door. "Coffee?" he asked casually. "Also what do you think was Maura's deal? She gave me some sort of look in the meeting but I couldn't tell what she was on about."

As the two of them left, Mythos shook his head. He had been standing in the doorway the entire time because they had left first... "Oblivious to the Earth exploding... Probably." He shrugged his shoulders and left, electing to go down a different hallway so tat he didn't cause any more...trouble. I'll check in on Aqua. He decided.
At Trevor's place, Jake stretched his arms over top of his head. Finally, he had a few moments to work out the kinks from battle. "Nah. Not this time. I think I'd like something harder, if I'm going to drink anything." He took off his military jacket and hung it the same place as Trevor's. "Oh, Maura?" Jake cracked his neck. Seemed he had more stretching. "She wears her heart on her sleeve. I almost do, but I usually can throw on a coat rather quickly..." His clothing metaphor was hopefully a little humorous. Given the topic, he didn't want to be too tone-deaf. "She's not going to like the "correct" answer that Kavisto was going for. I mean, I don't want to lie and say I do like it. But I have to live with the fact that my screw-ups can either hurt a couple of people, or a continent of people. It's very hard to process that when you care about all people. Especially people you're close to." He pulled out his Light Prism and tapped a few things. "Speaking of which, I've just asked medical to give me an alert when Aqua is coherent enough to have visitors."
