The first part of the move worked, but Sun Wukong jumped back ever so slightly, avoiding the attack. He then retracted his staff and brought it back to him, drawing it back. He then plunged the staff towards Lu Bu, extending it at a dramatic speed with the stab. This momentum and the extension of the staff gave the staff considerable speed and enough power to knock the armoured Lu Bu back through the earth shield, which was now behind him.

Lu Bu tried to bring his katana back down to deflect, but thanks to the speed of the extension and his inexperience with weight of the weapon missed and was sent pummelling backwards into the earthen shield. Unfortunately, the katana was also glanced, at the forced behind the blow knocked it out of Lu Bu's hands. In the shield ring now, Lu Bu got to his feet heavily, spitting out saliva and a bit more blood. Damn... still not used to that weapon...

Panting quite heavily now, Lu Bu looked up at Sun Wukong, then after a few seconds nodded. "Yeah, alright," he called back gruffly. "I guess I see what you mean about that one." He clambered out of the wreckage of his stone circle and went to pick the dai-katana back up so as to return it to the armoury.

By now Sun Wukong was standing close to Lu Bu. "Good, word of advice." He said, crouching down. "Just because another warrior does well with a weapon, doesn't imply that the weapon is a good one. I just beat you with a stick." he chuckled. "Never take a page from another warrior's book. It's all about yourself."

"A spear is an excellent weapon for horseback," Lu Bu answered proudly. "And the ji spear is one of the heaviest and the best for slicing with the blade - at least it was so in my time. However, to use two doubles the number of blows which may be landed, as well as demonstrating skill and, if the power of your blows is not diminished, strength. Finally, I cross them because to do so creates a shape which is good for elemental power and allows me a convenient and often surprising ranged attack."

"I use all four elements," Lu Bu replied, pride once more in his voice. "Fire, Air, Earth and Water. And recently... I've also found I'm able to use a special kind of Fire. I think it has something to do with dragons; I got it after being hit by some sort of fireball from one. [Random canonicity change! That never happened now!]"

"Alright, I see. Well." Wukong started. "How about giving me a fight using only your magic? If you can hit me once with a spell, by which I mean cause me damage, you can ask me any question in the world." Wukong finished, smiling and perching himself on top of his staff, which was being balanced vertically on the ground.

Lu Bu frowned. He didn't particularly like not having a weapon... but if this was what Wukong wanted... he took a brief ready pose, then slammed his right fist down upon the earth, causing chunk of earth beneath Wukong's staff to burst upwards, hopefully catapulting him into the air. Lu Bu then wasted no time in swinging his other fist in a direction which crossed Wukong's trajectory, launching a fireball from it. And that was his opening gambit.

Sun Wukong was shot up into the air, but he still balanced on the staff casually. Suddenly he picked up the staff from beneath him whilst flying up through the air. He held the staff above his head and twirled it, stopping himself from rising as the fireball shot above his head, not touching him. He continued to twirl the staff like helicopter blades, keeping him suspended.

Since Wukong was closer to the ground now, Lu Bu decided to try and hit him with a fire tower. He slammed his fist against the ground once more, this time with the fist glowing red. A pillar of fire then burst up from the ground beneath Wukong to engulf him.

Lu Bu grunted, knowing the staff was probably durable enough to survive that. Thinking in the split-second afterwards how to hit Wukong now, he wondered if he could make ice. Water and Air seemed a likely combination; he tried combining the two on one of his fists and then shooting this combination out at Sun Wukong. Unfortunately, he'd gotten it wrong; all this did was create a stream of Water droplets which were blown this way and that by the Air, with the result that most didn't would never even hit Wukong and those that might would cause no damage whatsoever. Ahem. Embarrassing.

Lu Bu scowled. Ice he'd work on later. Gathering a fireball around each hand, he thrust them out towards Wukong, splaying them as he did so, causing a barrage of smaller fireballs so shoot towards his opponent. Since they had some homing capabilities and were slightly staggered so that they'd arrive several after another, hopefully at least a couple of them would hit.

Sun Wukong leapt up high into the air, with all the fireballs passing underneath him. He then shifted his weight so he'd fall back onto the spire faster. Upon reaching the surface he used a powerful punch onto the rocks, smashing them and releasing his staff, which he proceeded to grab and return to it's original size.

"Oh, I will!" Lu Bu assured Wukong brashly, although privately he was feeling a little up against a brick wall by now. He was also starting to get rather tired - he wasn't used to using magic attacks exclusively rather than merely to augment his physical attacks. Nevertheless, he slammed both fists down onto the earth, and several chunks of rocks ripped themselves up from the now rather desecrated path of earth directly beneath Sun Wukong. These sharp chunks flew up towards Wukong, attempting to smash into him and cut him.

"What's that?" Lu Bu barked at Sun Wukong, having vaguely caught the murmur. There was a bit of a gasp in his voice now though. Barely detectable for the moment, but growing. He fought on regardless, pushing out with both hands in a sideways butterfly shape (probably a technical name for it, but I don't know it unfortunately) and sent a wave of Wind energy at Wukong to blast him back.

Lu Bu was breathing heavily now; every move was taking it out of him. Worse, he was running out of ideas. Wukong seemed absolutely impossible to hit; he could dodge nearly everything, and what he couldn't dodge he could just block or shrug off. Probably a more skilled magic user could have secured at least one, minor hit upon the monkey-man, but that wasn't Lu Bu. He needed weapons. Weapons felt good, weapons felt comfortable. Magic on its own was alien. Still, he couldn't give up. Separating his hands and then clapping them together, he sent a thin, vertical blast of Wind at Wukong. He hoped the fast that it was faster than any of his previous attacks meant that, coupled with the wider, more sustained blast from just now, this one would hit its target and have some effect before he could dodge.
