Howdy there. I'm Steve, one of the three admins on this site, resident funnyman and close combat expert. In this guide I'll be teaching you about the melee system we have going here. Now, you're probably thinking "Why should I read this? Physical fighting is easy." Well it's not, quiet. We've got some awesome fighters here, both physical and magical. I.E. if you don't know what you're doing on even a rough basis, you're gonna end up fried by Yamiken. Or chained by Neon. Or sliced and diced by Mushi. Or sat on by Lu Bu. Or- you get where I'm going now, right? Okay, good.
Strategising.
Now, it's all good and easy to just run in like a lunatic and throw blow after blow at your opponent, but that won't work until you're good at it. Until you are, you should try thinking about your attacks. Remember, it's a turn-based posting site, you're not on a deadline to post, take your time and think of what you're gonna do. You don't even have to show your opponent you're planning something. If you read the rules, which you really should've done, you'll have noticed that it says "Prep post when necessary, which is generally for the stronger attacks. The first number is current turn, the second is how many it will take to use. [#/#]" well, that applies to magic only, so you can trick your opponent into thinking you're doing something, but actually be doing something else.
This works in opposite too, you're opponent may well have read this also and be planning something similar, so make sure you keep an eye out. Well, that should cover that.
Retreating
OKAY. Now, immediately one might think that running away is how you LOSE a fight, it's not. It's a vital part in staying alive. Even I, who excel in fighting up close and personal, get into situations where my opponent has me in a tight position, and I have to get out of there to re-assess myself and get back in the game, use this wisely, not too often, but not too scarcely, proper usage of this method will prove very useful in the long run.
The Ol' One Two!
You may well have a weapon on hand, but that will not be your best aspect in a lot of physical fights. Make sure you keep up the leg and arm work, because sometimes your weapon will lose effect, then what're you gonna do?
Study
Okay, this isn't a very common thing, but if you have an unusual weapon (i.e. katana, rapier etc.) you may well want to research it on how it was used/made and shizz, you might end up against someone who DOES know about their weapon and uses it better than you use yours. Trust me, I've been there. While I'm on this subject, I recommend trying out a variety of weapons until you find one for you. I went through... four, weapons before I found the katana, and I've stuck with it ever since.
Thanks to Ralph's suggestion, I've put up some ideas for researching some odd weapons.

Sticking to it
Okay, don't try and be master of all fighting types. By this I don't actually mean styles, I mean you personally. Jumping around, defensive, offensive, and all the other ways of fighting, don't try ans master them all, hone one or two of them until you're really good at them, then continue to hone them until you master them, and when you've mastered them, you might end up teaching them to others.
Originality
One idea is to take something that isn't usually considered a weapon, and turn it into one. We have one of these right off the bat, Neon's chains. Seriously, give it a shot, it's a nice feeling having something unique. However, it doesn';t have to be offensive or magic, it can be defensive, like Musashi's steel-plated sandals, they've helped me out of many a situation.
Small Note
While I'm at it, while fighting is a very important skill here, it's not the only one you should use. Try a variety of things. Take the main group for example, I'm typically the close combat expert there, but I'd be nothing without Rem, our healer, or our leader, Skylos. we'll need people like them, so, try different things, it isn't all about fighting.
Well, that's all I've got for now, read them carefully, and follow them, trust me, I know this shit.
